Aram Parunak

Executive Director

Aram Parunak is the Executive Director of the Queen City Diamonds, Charlotte’s premier girl’s AAU basketball program and Founder of Hoops College. The Queen City Diamonds program will bring the resources of Hoops College and other organizations to help develop girls basketball in the Charlotte and surrounding areas. Parunak’s extensive experience with all levels of women’s basketball gives him a wealth of knowledge and experiences that he would like to make available to the world. Prior to launching Hoops College as a full time endeavor, Parunak was the Executive Director at Combine Academy. Here he started the women’s program and helped numerous players develop and find college scholarship opportunities to continue their educations and athletic careers.

Prior to Combine, he served as an assistant coach at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. He helped lead the Blue Hose to their most successful season in the program’s Division 1 history while coaching four players to All Conference Honors, the most in program history. Prior to Presbyterian, Parunak served as the Director of Basketball Operations at UNC-Asheville for one season. He was responsible for scouting of opponents, film breakdown and other film needs. He also coordinated all aspects of team travel, alumni outreach, while assisting with equipment management and recruiting efforts.

Parunak joined UNC Asheville after serving as Associate Head Coach at the Apprentice School (Newport News, VA), for the past six seasons. In his six years, the Apprentice School had an overall record of 101-58 and was one of the top USCAA programs in the country. As the associate head coach, he was involved in every aspect of the program. During the 2013-14 season the Lady Builders went to the USCAA Final Four. They ended the season with an overall record of 22-5 and a final national ranking of 3rd. Parunak was also instrumental in recruiting and developing five players that finished their careers with All-American honors. Parunak came to the Lady Builders following a one year stint at NCAA Division II Coker College. Prior to Coker, he coached the youth and AAU girls basketball as well the UNC Chapel Hill Women’s Basketball Club team for three years where they won a regular season title, finished second twice and was tournament runner-up twice.

Parunak graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2000 with a degree in math and obtained his master’s degree in adult education from the University of Phoenix. He is married to the former Kristin Kidd who is an assistant women’s basketball coach at Queens University at Charlotte.
